Carrie A. Brown

MA, LPC, EMDR Certified Therapist, CPTT Candidate

Carrie earned her Master of Arts in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 2004. She completed her internship at a domestic violence shelter for women which marked the start of her journey to not only understand the impact of trauma, but ultimately how healing and transformation occur.

Carrie’s extensive training reflects her commitment to this work. She is an EMDR Certified Therapist and has advanced training in betrayal trauma (working with partners impacted by sexual addiction) and brainspotting. She is trained in the Gottman Method (levels 1 & 2) and is an Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist. Her work also includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems and incorporates many somatic and mindfulness practices.

Carrie’s approach is rooted in empathy, collaboration, and a deep understanding that while our circumstances and stories are varied, we are all seeking connection, understanding and relief. Depression and anxiety often stem from profound experiences of loss or a disrupted sense of belonging. When we undergo significant losses, whether it’s the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, or the departure from a familiar community, we can feel adrift and disconnected. These experiences can erode our sense of purpose and identity, and lead to feelings of isolation and despair. Rediscovering a sense of connection and finding new sources of support are crucial steps in our healing journey.

Victor Frankl's words underscore Carrie’s work:

"Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

Prior to her work in private practice, Carrie was active in addressing societal issues impacting young girls. She developed a program called Giving Girls a Voice to shine a light on the insidious effects of relational aggression. This program empowered girls and equipped educators with tools to create supportive and inclusive environments.

Carrie works with individuals, couples, and teens (17 and older).
